Burgers burgers burgers: Red Robin

Welp, we decided to critique a 'classic' today...mostly because we were craving burgers. Which neither of us got.... odd how that happens.

Here's what is yummy:
Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich
Bruschetta Chicken Sandwich
Crispy Chicken Salad
Fry Sauce

Branch out. Try one of these yummy sandwiches in place of your usual burger! We were surprised at how delicious the honey mustard poppy seed dressing was on the salad... oh my goodness. We even dipped our poorly seasoned fries in it...

It was nice to eat something semi-healthy after gorging on fries as appetizers. They're bottomless, which is probably not the best idea if we want to go out in public in bathing suits this summer.

All gone! 30 seconds after receiving them.

Their onion rings are also delicious! Which we got complimentary because of our HORRIBLE and slow service. Don't worry, normally the staff is very fun, but you might need to go on a weekend for that. Maybe they just schedule bad workers on week days so they piss off less people? We're not really sure.

Tubs had the bruschetta sandwich, which had nice flavor and would've tasted 10x better if it wasn't ...wet... that's gross ya'll.

We'd rather have $10 in our stomach right now instead of this sandwich. It wasn't worth the money.

Overall:
Price: Everything is around $10... and it is occasionally worth it. Just bring fries home. Num num

Service: On a scale of 1-10... it gets about a 3.9 (and that .9 comes just from the onion rings)

Food: Minus some soggy buns and unseasoned fries... it was pretty standard burger restaurant quality (aka mediocre)

Maybe we're being a little harsh today, but hey, you can't win 'em all Red Robin. We still like your theme song though.

Red Robin..... yum..

Our Favorite Granola

On a quest to become more healthy, we decided to make granola this week. This recipe is a favorite of Momma Chubs, and ohhhh is it yummy.

Here's what you'll need:

liquid ingredients:
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sesame oil
1 c. raw honey
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 c. organic peanut butter

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Make sure to really mix it up well. Pour all the wet ingredients into a saucepan and heat until it boils. Remove from heat and pour onto dry mixture. Once everything is thoroughly combined, pour the granola onto a jelly roll pan and spread it out in a thin layer.

Bake at 220 degrees for 2 hours. Let cool. Granola can be stored for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.

We like ours with milk or fresh fruit and yogurt.

Local Hot Spot: Guru's

If you live in Provo, Utah then you'll know what Guru's is. Why? Because they're known for these delicious beauties:

They have seriously the BEST sweet potato fries on this planet. We're a little obsessed (two plates worth...). But what we're here to do is tell you what else is worth trying at this local gem.

Do try:
Cilantro-lime anything (quesadilla, salad, pasta)
omg omg omg... seriously.

Tacos
we'll admit, we might only like these because they have cilantro-lime dressing

Huckleberry Float
very unique spin on a classic treat

You can live without:
Maui Wowie Chicken Wrap
didn't live up to it's description, it was pretty average

Thai Peanut Steak Pita
they barely give you any meat and it is quite pricey

Teriyaki Rice Bowl
honestly, they just make other things better

Let us just show you how amazing their Taos Tortilla salad is...

Not only is it pretty, but it's tasty as well :)

Our overall rating on Guru's:

Price: most things are around $10, but the fries are fairly priced
Atmosphere: eclectic and fun, you'll also see us there doing regular karaoke on Saturday nights!
Taste: if you get the right thing it's awesome and worth the money, but beware of trying new menu items
Service: the employees seem a little bored so they hovered a lot, but hey... who's complaining about two free refills?

Tempura Avocado Tacos

So we'll admit: we're poor college students. Thus, we've been doing a whole lot more cooking at home lately and trying out recipes, rather than trying out new restaurants. Sorry! On the bright side, we've reviewed a few yummmmmy recipes for you, and come up with a few of our own!

This past weekend Chubs went to South Carolina, and encountered what she declares is "the best taco she's ever eaten." If you're ever at Folly Beach in Charleston then go to Taco Boy-it might just change your life. Upon Chubs arrival back to good ol' Utah, it was decided that we should try to recreate the recipe of their tempura avocado taco.

Here's what you'll need:
Green cabbage
Corn tortillas
Sweet chili sauce
1-2 ripe avocados
Flour
Seltzer water
Cornstarch
Salt
Oil

Start by cutting up the avocados. You need to make sure they are still pretty hard and ripe, like this one. Then slice vertically into each half and scoop out with a spoon.

Next, get the tempura batter started and some hot oil going on the stove (a wok will make this easier). We like this tempura recipe

Dip the avocado slice in the tempura and pop it in the oil. Keep the heat around medium high.

Use the center of the cabbage (the white part) and slice thinly. If you don't like wasting fresh produce chop up the green cabbage too and steam it. It's delicious and a good side dish! And very popular in the South :)

Now... add all the ingredients together like so...

We loved this quirky new spin on a taco! Take a leap of faith and try it (especially if you love avocados). You won't be sorry you did!

Vegetarian BBQ Potato Skins

Here is what we've discovered: you just cannot go wrong with BBQ. This recipe was inspired by Woodranch, a delicious restaurant in Southern California. The original has BBQ chicken in it, but we're cheap college students sooo we went vegetarian. Here's what you'll need:

3-4 potatoes
1 handful of cilantro
1/4 c. chopped red onion
BBQ sauce
shredded cheese
chicken (optional)

First things first, wash your potatoes and slice them in half. Then take a large spoon and carve out the potato so there is a shallow area for sauce. This part is really important because otherwise the skins taste a little too....potatoey.

Next, pop these guys in the oven at 375 for about 10-15 minutes.

Coat each piece with BBQ sauce, I usually use a rubber spatula. Then add the onions and a little bit of cilantro, but save some! It makes a beautiful garnish. Next, add the cheeeeeese. And lots of it :) Bake for 7 minutes, then add the rest of the cilantro and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Viola! Dip them in ranch or sour cream with chives, depending on your preference. Enjoy!

Feeling Hungry?

We are.
Welcome to a blog all about the goods: food food food.

We are two girls who are in love with cooking, baking, and most of all, eating. Our mission is to find the best places to eat and the yummiest recipes. We'll do it all through trial and error and report back to you.

Whether it's a fancy new restaurant, an oldy but goody, or a hole in the wall shack, we'll be showing you what's amazing and what's just okay. It's not enough to just recommend food places to you guys- we want to tell you what's good to order.

For our first post, we're featuring food from Kneaders Bakery! They're known for their endless french toast, but what you might end up missing is their breakfast croissants. They're AMAZING. Buttery, soft, and way better than any breakfast sandwich either of us have made...

If you don't believe us, we'll show you:

I, the Chubster, literally scarfed mine in about 74 seconds. It was delishhhhhous. Kneaders also offers a great variety of baked goods and desserts. Go for the fruit tart. It's a little harder to eat than a normal fruit pizza, but it has similar taste with a slight almond flavor in the whipped cream and a surprise strawberry jam on the bottom of the tart.

p.s. If you're looking for a panini don't go in on Thursday nights. Kneaders gets their shipment of food Friday mornings so they are more likely to be out of what you want (trust me, they were out of avocado, bacon, and my favorite bread when I went)

p.p.s. If you sneak into Kneaders on a Saturday night, aaaall of the desserts are 1/2 off. All of those calories for less money.  Yum.
